Last week, Ocean State Job Lot announced a new pet food opportunity as part of the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, offering free pet food to local animal welfare organizations!

Pope Memorial Humane Society was fortunate enough to be a recipient of the pet food, and we can’t thank Ocean State Job Lot enough for this generous donation! When we arrived at our local store in Rockland this past Saturday, the Ocean State Job Lot team was kind and welcoming and even helped us load the food into the PMHS van!

Ocean State Job Lot, you’re the reason hundreds of homeless pups and kits have full bellies today! Your incredible donation is making a world of difference for homeless pets in need. Thank you for caring!!

**A special shoutout to everyone (there were a lot of you) who tagged PMHS in the Ocean State Job Lot social media post or sent us messages to let us know about the opportunity! It’s a special feeling to know so many of you are looking out for the homeless pets in our care at PMHS. You’re the best!!!**

Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce the newest exhibition of artwork is now being displayed on the Art Wall in the lobby of the shelter. The current show, featuring pieces by Mary Jane Martin, is on display and available for purchase through March, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pope Memorial Humane Society.

Mary Jane Martin is a 75-year-old resident of Rockland. She divides her time unequally between her dog, painting, writing poetry, and working at the Rockland Public Library. She likes life simple and colorful, much like her garden and the artwork she has hung at Pope Memorial Humane Society. As a self-taught artist and writer, she likes to keep her works simple and unambiguous. She has lots of artistic friends with whom she attributes her learning through osmosis.

She is showing an eclectic mix of artwork: acrylics, watercolor, pencil, photography, and poetry. She likes to show the silly side of life, hoping to make you smile with her mix of photography and poems. She’s hoping you will find the right piece that speaks to you to help contribute to the wonderful work of Pope Memorial.

Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Mary Jane Martin’s artwork and all the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.

The mission of Pope Memorial Humane Society is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals in transition and to enrich the lives of pets and people in our community.

Last week marked the launch of the “Send a Shelter Pet Some Love” campaign, and oh, what a week it has been! The goal? To raise a little money to help with food, shelter, and medical care for the animals of Pope Memorial Humane Society and ensure that every animal in the shelter receives at least one Valentine!

And the response? Well, it’s been nothing short of amazing! PMHS is now adorned with a tapestry of Valentine’s hearts, each one a testament to the kindness and generosity of our community. We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who opened their hearts and wallets. With each heart meaning a minimum of a $5 donation, over $1,000 has been raised!

Valentine’s hearts will grace the shelter walls for the next week, reminding us all that there’s always room for more love, especially for those who need it most.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering support. You are making a real difference in the lives of homeless pets in need. Let’s keep the love flowing!

Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce the newest exhibition of artwork is now being displayed on the Art Wall in the lobby of the shelter. The current show, featuring pieces by Marjorie Strauss, is on display and available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pope Memorial Humane Society.

Though Strauss has worked as a graphic designer for many years, her art training has been as a painter, with pastels being a focus, along with clay sculpture. The works on display are primarily pastel, some on velour paper — giving the soft medium an even softer feel. A few small oil paintings and prints are included as well.

Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Marjorie’s artwork and all the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.

The mission of Pope Memorial Humane Society is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals in transition and to enrich the lives of pets and people in our community.

Pope Memorial Humane Society (PMHS) extends its deepest gratitude to the community for the tremendous success of the 6th Annual Pet Angel Tree. The outpouring of your support, the absolute best community, warms everyone’s hearts and has truly made a difference.

This year, community members came together in full force to ensure that every single animal under the care of PMHS had at least one gift beneath the Pet Angel Tree. The generosity displayed was heartening and will undoubtedly positively impact the lives of homeless pets in need.

While some presents may have seemed unconventional at first glance, each item serves a crucial purpose in meeting the unique needs of the shelter animals. For instance, donating pet-safe sidewalk salt ensures Honey, the dog, and her friend’s paws are protected during those winter walks. The baby bunnies at PMHS appreciate the pine shavings and rabbit food contributed by our community members. Sushi, one of our feline residents at PMHS, is enjoying the donated canned cat food – a favorite among her culinary preferences. Such thoughtful gifts ensure that the animals receive sustenance and the comforts that make their stay at PMHS more enjoyable.

Pope Memorial Humane Society would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to every community member who contributed to the success of the 6th Annual Pet Angel Tree. With over 350 animals in our care, these supplies play a vital role in meeting their immediate needs as we embark on the new year. Your support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of homeless pets in need, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.

*A special shoutout to the local businesses who hosted satellite Pet Angel Trees – Ruckus Donuts, Laurel’s Dolce Vita, and Affinity Nutrition! You helped make this year bigger and better than ever!
